A step back from life

A ‘great example’ someone called me today,
For choosing a path in an uncommon way,
But exemplary or brave, that’s not really it,
I just needed the time to stop, breathe and sit.

I’ve stepped off of the ride, to look up and around,
To really appreciate the sight and the sound.
In taking this step, I am hoping to find,
A real Holy Grail to quieten my mind.

A ball-busting career was never for me,
Nor pushing the trolley, serving coffee and tea.
To this day I still wonder to where I am headed,
But not for one second have my future I dreaded.

To be honest I find it a pure liberation,
Not having a clue where will be the next station.
So let’s hope it involves lots of laughs and no strife,
As Tommy enjoys taking a step back from life.

It’s you

A phone call or that fateful mail,
To up the mast and set the sail.
A change that means a whole new route,
Who cares if or not you need a suit.

That waiting, waiting, so unaware,
If today’s the day that fate will care,
To push you on and start on over,
With more than just a four-leaf clover.

The elation of a chapter change,
From familiar on to something strange,
But excitement beats fear through and through,
When today’s the day they say, “it’s you”.

You can rely on dear Fate

Life is a battle, I will never deny,
But the key to it all, is to be determined to try,
To get over each hurdle, and keep raising those bars,
To never give up, when you reach for the stars.

Those who have met me, will know how I am,
Smiling and laughing, not giving a damn,
But I’m only a human, with my own share of lows,
So I understand sadness, when life’s doors they may close.

What I’ve learned through the years, is to keep faith held strong,
Because life has a plan, that will never go wrong,
It can’t always be easy, or served up on a plate,
But trust me when I say, you can rely on dear Fate.

Stepping off of the ledge

It’s scary, and black,
The future unknown,
But trust me it’s worth it,
To step off of your throne.

Walk forward to tomorrow,
With a smile and eyes wide,
Because you never know where,
You’ll be taken on life’s ride.

It’s scary I’ve said,
And it merits that emotion,
But you just have to trust fate
And enjoy the commotion.

You’ll have laughs and some tears,
And some anguish, no doubt,
But stepping off of the ledge,
Sure beats sitting life out.
